Foiled Conversation

"I wonder what stops amateur radio operators from telling eachother things like 'Dude! You're a total jerk-off!'"

"They have to be licensed."

"Yeah, I know that. But I can't imagine that they actually have it written down in their manuals that operators shouldn't use foul language."

"Why not?"

"I don't know. I just find the idea of institutionalized morality repugnant. I think the community of users that use a service or technology should be free to determine their own standards of conduct..."

"So you think that if a rule is written down then it's bad?"

"What? No! That's ludicrous. I just hate the idea of institutionalized censorship!"

"I know this just makes me evil, but I disagree!"

"Why do you do that? Why do things have to be so black and white? Why can't we just disagree?"

"Because that's how you see the world; people agree with you and you respect them, or they disagree with you and you think they're evil."
